Blog post 9: Shooting Star

A falling star or what we called shooting star is everyone of us already saw. People believe that if you saw a shooting star you should make a wish before the shooting star gone. So whenever people saw a shooting star they make their wish before it disappear. I want to saw a shooting star again because I don't remember when was the first time I saw one. 

According to Fraser Cain in the article entitled "what is a shooting star" in the website universetoday.com. Shooting star is not a star at all its a meteoroid. Shooting star or what we called meteoroid is as small as a sand and as large like a boulder. Astronomer called the small one interplanetary dust and the large one is the asteroids. We can't called shooting star a star because its just a dust and a rock that fall into our earths atmosphere and its burning up. I think it burn when it fall because of the pressure and the speed it has when it fall in the earths atmosphere. Falling star or even Shooting star what ever we called it its not star at all its just a outer space rock or dust that fall onto the earths atmosphere. Shooting star is not a wishing star that granted our wishes in life its just a rock or a dust that come from the outer space. 

Whether its a falling star, shooting star or a meteoroid its just a star where people make wish and believe that their wish will come true. But its not the shooting star or the falling star that make our wish come true its our self and our determination to do it that make all the things possible for everyone of us. Everyone of us is just like a star that deserve to twinkle. Lets not depend our own destiny to the star because we our self make our own destiny.

Blog post 8: Meteor Shower

A meteor shower is like a rain of diamond that fall from the sky. When observing or watching you feel relaxed and a night view that full of a raining stars. I really wish to see a meteor shower in real life because its like full of light that is falling a from the sky like a rain. I hope in future I myself see it on my on eyes.

According to David K. Lynch in the article "what cause a meteor shower" in the website geology.com. There are two kinds of meteor the sporadic meteor and the shower meteor. This two meteor is different to each other because the sporadic meteor is like a random bits in the solar system dust that rotates around the sun. Its the one most people see with their naked eyes while gazing the night sky. The sporadic meteor is seldom exceed five per hour. The shower meteor come from the dust that a comets released that travel to our solar system. The meteor shower occurs when the earth itself pass  the trail debris that happened on its yearly orbit around the sun. It only last in a few hours. Even though its a sporadic or shower meteor its a rare view that all of as may not see because it sometimes happened in some specific place in the earth so not all of us may saw it in real life.

I don't know if its an article or a news entitled "draconid meteor shower 2013 to peak tonight after sunset" by Meredith Bennett-Smith in the website huffingtonpost.com. The draconid meteor shower are best observe in the early evening. They said that the sky watchers can optimize the viewing experience by staying away from bright lights so that their eyes can adjust to the darkness at least 20 minutes before the meteor shower. The draconid meteor shower is come from the constellation name draco or dragon. Its like a annual event that happened in october. They say that it happened when earth travel through dust and ice trailing from the comet giacobini-zinner. Its like every meteor shower has its own peak season where you can see them.

Meteor shower happens in many country. I don't really know if the meteor shower already happened in the Philippines. Because I only hear about the eclipse news here but not meteor shower so I wonder when it happens to have a meteor shower in the Philippines.

Blog post 7: Star Wars

Even though I'm not fun of watching star wars it just interested me because of my topic stars and its kin of related to my blog post no. 6. So I just decided to write a blog post about star wars. I just read summary of star wars, its history and I found a novel about it. 

In the article entitled "what star wars is about" by Amelia Hill in the website scifi.about.com. The star wars is a trilogy a story about a hero's journey. It like that the tragic hero that updated to epic space battle. Star wars has a big impact in the viewers it also crossing the generational and cultural lines. It also state their that George Lucas called the expanded universe the parallel universe, its like a story that don't intrude into a world. Like a different world that you live on that does not exist in such time this days. Just like Lucas he don't like have a control over the world that he what to made in the star wars. Its like losing self control over your dream world that don't exist.

Like many movie or fiction their are truth behind those things, so I end up wondering what is the truth behind the fiction star wars an I found a article entitled "the truth behind fiction" by Charles E. Herzog in the website realtruth.org. The star wars is similar to the matrix movie its has a biblical truth and was mixed with much fiction. Because of fiction that extremely popular that appear mysteries in life so everyone find it appealing and interesting. It has biblical truth because the star wars portrays the battle between evil and good that is similar to the bible. Star wars is like a fantasy that may connect to a present world that many things have connection or related to that movie into our world.

I just think that good will over come evil. I know that star wars may means so many things to people but it may means to them in many different ways. It may change people point of view or perspective in their life. It may connect in our world today that we face in our economy or population that we have today.

Blog post 6: Death star

Death is the end for the people who live in this world but for stars its like just a new start for them. This death star, I'm talking about is not the literal meaning of a star that died. But its the death star in the movie star wars. Though I did not watch the movie star wars, I just found it will researching for the new topic or title for my blog post.

 

According to in the article entitled "the concept of the death star " in the website starwars.wikia.com. "A Death Star was a moon-sized Imperial military battle station armed with a planet-destroying super laser". In the movie the empire develop it to a weapon to destroy all the planets. Death star is like a terror instrument that meant force rebel worlds to surrender under the threat of destruction. Its like the evidence of evil nature of the empire and a proof of their great weakness. It is designed to allow the emperor to control ore directly the galactic empire through fear. In the movie star wars the death star was destroyed by the rebel alliance.

After reading some summary of star wars, I wonder how does the death star work and found an article entitled "how the death star work" by Robert Valdes in the website entertainment.howstuffworks.com. The death star is the solution to order that the galactic empire think of. Its like a law or a threat to people so they don't rebel on the order that was given. It takes more than a million of military personnel to run the death star which size is like the small moon. Death star can travel at a superluminal velocities but its real power lies on the super laser. Because it is capable of firing a beam that is directed powerful energy that can destroy any planet regardless of its size. Its like the death star represents the absolute pinnacle of military engineering and technology.

 

In life just like the death star, people sometimes use technology in bad ways or to rule over a thing that they want to get. Just like using your power to order the people you want to do the things that they don't want to do. Either using the technology or your power to rule over is not a good thing we should use it in a good way that all of us can benefit to it.  

Blog post 5: Life Cycle

It all started at life. We all know that all of us in this earth has their own way of living life. But we don't know where or when it will end after living a life with fulfillment. Just like people, stars are born they live their lives and they die. Of course, I'm talking about stars, and the way they’re born.

According to Fraser Cain in the article "Life cycle of star" in the website www.universetoday.com. "Stars live and die is completely different in the life in earth". Like people star has its own life cycle. It has first until to the last cycle. Stars life cycle is different in our life cycle because its only a matter of months before we born but stars hundreds of thousand years before they become a star. It pass through many process like when a baby is born it under go examinations. After the life it will comes to end just like us its only a matter of how many years we will live in this earth. Stars also has its end but it will take billions of years before the star end its life.

I wonder and think about what happened to the star when it dies. So I found an article entitled "Why do stars burn and what happened when they die?" by Andrew Zimmerman Jones in the website physics.about.com. After the star comes to its end it has many process that will happen. The burning of that body is just like the process of the burning of stars. Its like cremating people who died. This period of the burning is what most of us think as the life of a star, and it's in this phase that we see most stars up in the heavens. In the burning process it generate pressure its like you heating air inside a balloon. Then the cooling of the stars will take place until the death of the star where itself against the gravity will collapse into white dwarf. It's possible that when the star is dying it might go through a supernova. If the mass continue to collapse under its gravitational force it will cause a black hole.

Even though its a human or a living thing like a person and a star we all have a life cycle where and when it will end. The life cycle of the star and our life cycle is different we can just say that all the thing in this world has their own origin and it will have to end in the right time. 

Blog post 4: Constellation

We can define stars as out of reach, guide, light, mysterious, faith and relaxing. Like a fairy tail that is out of reach. A light that guide us in our struggles. Like a love that is mysterious that leads our life. Faith that helps you think of what will happened next. Relaxing like sweeping away your doubts. Stars of our life turned where the heaven looking back at you with thousands of eyes.

They identify 88 patterns that help people navigate on land and by sea as well as tell time using star that appears in different parts of the sky. Constellation has great significance that has been given to the celestial objects seen in the sky. Constellation is a group of stars that visible related to in a particular configuration. The stars in a constellation or asterism rarely have any astrophysical relationship to each other; they just happen to appear close together from Earth and typically lie very far apart in space. Also in this article it explain way they found the different patterns they have or they observe.

While doing my research in constellation I think about how constellation got their names so, I found a article entitled "How The Night Sky Constellation Got Their Names" by Joe Rao in the website www.livescience.com. The 48 constellation are known as ancient or original. Its just like in Greek or Babylonian time the 48 constellation names come from like they name it in some of their gods. The other half was the modern constellation that discover by the astronomers and give it a name. But the most know constellation are the 12 zodiac sign that people believe for their daily fortune and others base it for their lucky charms or even a guide for a day. Giving names in the star patterns or the constellation is like giving name to all the living things we have in this earth like us our parents think about our names carefully.

Constellation is like the quote made by Confucius "Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated." Because star constellation and gazing at the stars is complicated in various things while life become complicated when it comes to challenges and problems we have in our daily life. Star constellation may help higher the hope of other people because of the pattern the stars form or so called zodiac signs that many of us believe in.

  

Blog post 3: Ancient Culture

Stars is connected to our life a very long time ago. Ancients even believe that stars is their God. They even worship it. They even have their own rituals and events to acknowledge their Gods. We even have zodiac signs that we believe in its like that signs tell us our own fortune. Ancients give us influence in many things we have in our life that we still use nowadays.

This article entitle "the universe and man" by Camille Flammarion in the website www.windows2universe.org. In this picture it explains the connection or relationship of man and the universe how they related by each other.It explains their that ancient civilization of myths of the sky their were god and goddess. Many years ago people understand the origin of heaven and the stars in the sky. Many culture have their own stories about stars being their god and goddess. Like the Native American in their own tradition of story telling they said that god descend to impregnate barren females in a certain village. If that female born the child they called it star children until they reach the age of 6 that child will return to reclaim their power or progeny.

For thousands of years people have associated objects in the sky, the Earth, and aspects of their physical world with the gods and goddesses of their cultures. Through these pages, find out about the gods and goddesses of different cultures around the world, and the works of art people have created to give them expression. Early civilization discover many things and they think that heavens inspired and shaped their beliefs.

We all know that we have many things that early civilization conclude for us and various of culture that have their own point of view for the member of their community. Ancient culture believe in star god and goddess that some people use until now. Having rituals and event for their gods. They even have a big celebration in order to worship their gods. I just conclude that even we have different culture and various of believes we get it and originated at one way the early civilization.

Blog post 2: Science View

When we look in the night sky we can see millions or billions of stars lighting up our nights. Without stars every night in our life will be dark and gloomy. Stars help us in many things. We believe that shooting stars can make our every wishes came true. A starry night sky can make you that your not alone. It can be your courage or your friend in many different ways. Stars is always their even how many years will past it will still guide you.

According to Fraser Cain in his website universetoday.com entitled "What is a Star?" It stated their that star is a ball of hydrogen and helium with enough mass that it can sustain nuclear fusion at its core. He said their and explain what were left in the big bang and we all know that we have a big bang theory that taught to us in high school  or in elementary. He explain how gas collect together that cause into a protoplanetary disk and the gravitational collapse of hydrogen and helium. We all know that our heavenly bodies are mysterious thing their are many theories how and where they are made. Nuclear fusion is what define star but vary in mass because we know that different amount of mass give stars their properties. Star can live billions of years in the sky whether its day or night.

In the article entitled "Starry Night: Colors of Summer Stars Explained" by Joe Rao in the website scientificamerican.com. He said their that a hues direct visual how stellar temperatures vary. He explain how and they feel when they saw a rainbow of the star colors in the night sky on that summer. In the picture its just a mix color of the night sky and a color of red that give a amazing impression to people.

According to Aristotle in an article entitled "Aristotelian Cosmology" in the website physic.ucr.edu. In this article the On the Heavens is most influential treatise of its kind in the history of humanity. It explain many thing about the stars and also about the galaxy that many scientist research on. Its like a discovery in many ways that help every on understand the universe on its own.

I conclude that many things in our world have their own mystery that various of people want to discover what mystery is that. Scientist help us in our question about many things about our heavenly bodies or thoughts about our galaxy. Many things that we can discover if we just explore and observe in every angle.

Stars is like life full of mystery and discoveries and if you discover thing its exciting. Star may relate in many various of way in our life so its exciting thing and interesting to explore and discover. 

Blog post 1: Myth of Stars

I am Leah Fe R. Ayop. Its interested me to right about stars because when I was in Bohol I saw a a beautiful starry night its like the dark sky was full of millions of lights. I remember it while I was thinking about my topic for the blog. That's inspired me to write about the stars as my topic. When I was alone at night and feel afraid I just find my self gazing at the starry night. 

Stars that shining like a diamond in the night star. Its like a millions of light that watching you under. We all know that stars is a natural luminous body visible in the sky especially at night. Stars also serves as light in our night. Watching at stars in the night sky made you feel relax or make you feel peace in your personalities. Gazing at it make you want to reach it but its out of reach. Its just like wish upon a star.

In this article it explains how was the life of Astraea when she was in the earth. She experienced in the wickedness of the humanity of the people. It shows how Astraea suffer and abandon the earth during the iron age. It states in this article what are the personalities of Astraea being the daughter of Zeus and Themis. Astrea the last immortal was the celestial virgin. Its explain here why she was the last immortal that live on the human world. Why she return to the heaven and become the constellation of Virgo. I thought that suffering in the wickedness of the humanity and being injustice of people made her back to the heaven. Even though that Astraea is a immortal she witness and suffer in the human world because of being greedy of the human. She was the associated with the goddess of justice Dike. Being the constellation of Virgo reflect with justice.

 

According to the article Hesperos by Sarah Pernick in the website Encyclopedia Mythica.
"Eosphorus means bearer of light. Hesperos means the bearer of dawn."

In this article it explain the personalities of Hesperos and his brother being the star of planet Venus. Why this personalities associated them of being the evening star and morning star of the Venus. How their personalities conflated to each other. What life does they have living in human earth and what struggles they have in. They were the son of the dawn goddess. It says in this article that bearer of light and the bearer of dawn often translated as Lucifer. How it came up being the evening star and morning star. It explain how they got the names bearer of light and bearer of dawn. It explains how the Ancient Greeks agreed that evening star and morning star are same celestial objects.

I conclude that there are many history or Greek mythology about stars. Its interesting to know about the God of stars, the star maiden and even about the evening star and the morning star. If you read thing about them you will learn how they were called that way like it was their nicknames. Reading and researching about this things its like your back in past life or time. You can imagine the things that happen many years back then. Stars is not just a heavenly bodies that give us light at night its also a way to learn things happen in earth many years ago. How humans become wicked, greedy and forget about justice. That's why in mythology about stars it explains how immortals become Gods in their on ways in life and its a interesting topic.

The Gods of star, star maiden, evening star and the morning star the things that they experienced as obstacles or problems is just like what many of us have. It may be a struggle but just like a star in the night sky we must just keep on shining even though its tough on us. According to Albert Einstein “Everything is determined, the beginning as well as the end, by forces over which we have no control. It is determined for the insect, as well as for the star. Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible piper.” Its not like we can change what happened many years ago. Mythology just give info about the immortal days we have that's why we have God of star and star maiden. That's my report in stars in mythology.
